What is Domestic Violence?
A power and control issue. It is physically or emotionally controlling behavior that restricts the activity and independence of another individual. It can include physical, sexual and psychological attacks, and economic control. Domestic violence affects persons of all cultures, religions, ages, sexual orientations, educational backgrounds, and income levels. The majority of victims are women, but men can be victims of domestic violence too.

Did you know that?
One in four American women report that they have been physically abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives.
30% of Americans say they know a woman who has been physically abused by her husband or boyfriend in the past year.
Domestic violence has gained widespread recognition as a public health emergency.
It is estimated that between 3.3 million and 10 million children in the U.S. are at risk of witnessing woman abuse each year.
Domestic Violence does not have to be tolerated.
Help is available to stop the cycle of violence.

Dvresources.org was created by the former TriCounty Health Partnership (TCHP) Domestic Violence Task Force to provide a comprehensive guide to domestic violence resources in the Montgomery, Berks and Chester County areas. TCHP is now a part of the TriCounty Community Network. We hope this resource will be useful to victims, concerned family members and professionals involved with issues related to domestic violence.

Pottsgrove High School Safe Dating Play

NEWS FLASH!

Local Teens Star in Mirror, Mirror; a Play about Domestic Violience

With Pottsgrove High School’s prom fast approaching, the play “Mirror, Mirror” became the focal point for TCN’s  Domestic Violence Committee. This  30 minute production allowed  students of Pottsgrove High School to learn how to handle potential dating violence and emotionally abusive relationships. After the play, students were divided into small groups for an open discussion. Each group was facilitated by  DV committee members and actors from the play.

The playwright, Aileen Mcculloch, Executive Director of Young Audiences Arts for Learning,  incorporated feedback and suggestions in order to develop a play that tackled real life issues of teens who are dating and  involved in abusive relationships.

Many thanks to Pottsgrove High school student actors, student directors and Drama Director, Todd Kelly. For photos and complete story, click here.
